On the banks of the scenic Red Cedar River, the Village of Colfax’s active business, education, civic and residential sectors join together to form a vibrant community nestled in rolling hills that offers the finest of rural Wisconsin’s natural beauty.
In 1864, the first non-native Americans established themselves on the confluence of the Red Cedar River and what came to be known as 18 Mile Creek. For its first 100 years, timber, sandstone and agriculture supported a settlement dominated by Norwegian immigrants. That Scandinavian influence remains evident today in our pride in the Colfax Public Schools, whose mascot is the Vikings.
