Welcome to University of Wisconsin-Stout’s STEM Camp 2016. This week-long camp is a fantastic opportunity for students (grades 8 - 10) to explore science, technology, engineering, and math while enjoying the summer fun and energy of UW-Stout campus life.
2016 Focus: Rocketry
Guided by UW-Stout STEM faculty, campers will tackle hands-on projects, experiments, and workshops in biology, physics, math, chemistry, computer science, and engineering, including supervised access to UW-Stout’s Fab Lab.
This year campers will learn how different STEM disciplines impact the designing and building of a rocket.
First, Stout instructors in chemistry, physics, engineering and math will teach foundational knowledge of rocketry materials, specifically how they’re made and how they work. As the week progresses, campers will begin assembling pieces of a rocket guided by counselors and instructors, drawing on the information they’ve gathered. Utilizing UW-Stout’s Fab Lab and other labs on campus will be vital to completing the final product: a functioning rocket.
Campers will stay overnight in campus dorms and eat in UW-Stout’s dining hall. Outside the classroom, we’ve got awesome camp activities lined up including:
- UW-Stout Adventure Challenge ropes course
- UW-Stout swimming pool
- Local industry tours
- Movie night...and much more!
