Mayo Clinic Health System offers volunteer opportunities

April 15–21 was National Volunteer Week. It was a good opportunity to recognize the volunteers who perform countless valuable services within our community.

In 2017, 696 volunteers served nearly 79,000 hours at Mayo Clinic Health System sites throughout northwest Wisconsin, saving nearly $1.9 million, according to Jennifer Loew, director of Volunteer Services.

“We have volunteers from many backgrounds, including retired professionals, teachers, stay-at-home moms, students and others,” Loew says. “For anyone who is looking for more meaning in their life, to connect with others in our community, learn a new skill or looking for a sense of purpose, volunteering is a great opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.”

Lloyd Fleig of Eau Claire says he wanted to do something useful and help people in his retirement. Fleig works at the clinic information desk, answering the phone, and helping patients and visitors get to their destinations.
