Harnessing the power of creativity and community with fab labs

2 Nov 2015

There’s something innately satisfying about making things. The DIY ethic has enjoyed a strong resurgence in recent years, thanks in part to digital fabrication laboratories or fab labs. These DIY centers were introduced in 2002 as educational outreach for MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms. In essence, they provide users with tools to make just about anything they can dream up.

The University of Wisconsin-Stout has a fab lab called the Discovery Center. Since July 2009, the center has facilitated dozens of collaborative projects, harnessing the creativity and technical skills of more than 300 students and faculty.

Since its inception, 483 jobs have been created or retained in conjunction with center activities. Find out more about how the Discovery Center is having an impact on Dunn County economic development. http://ow.ly/OvrTx
