Dunn County Offers a Great Alternative to City Living: Especially in a Pandemic Main Photo

There have been clear advantages of living in Dunn County during the global pandemic. Everywhere has been influenced by COVID-19 and Dunn County has not been immune. Still, we have a lot to be thankful for – including how much easier it is to live here than in an expensive and highly populated city or suburb.

Many people who live in the cities and suburbs, including in the Twin Cities, have begun asking themselves if they want to remain in the city or move to a quieter and less populated community. Though the Cities do provide access to greater cultural amenities, they were shuttered during COVID-19 and what was left was a feeling of being cramped in smaller houses and apartments.

In Dunn County, residents can spread out because lot sizes are generally larger, and houses are more affordable. Our housing costs are just 73% of the national average with the median home price being $168,700. This means that families moving from a high priced city or suburb can afford a larger home – something that has certainly been needed while quarantined at home with the kids. The opportunity to buy a home with an office and a play room can be possible when homes simply cost less.

Speaking of costing less, Dunn County has a cost of living that is only 87% of the national average – meaning that it’s possible to save in nearly every area. For those who are looking to reduce their expenses or want to take a more flexible job that allows for working from home, a lower cost of living can make this lifestyle change possible.

Quarantine in the Great Outdoors

A clear advantage of living in Dunn County is that we are surrounded by the most beautiful outdoor spaces. Going for a long hike can make a day under quarantine a lot more pleasant – especially when there are new trails to try. Taking the boat out to go fishing or simply enjoy being out on the water makes for a pleasant afternoon and a good sanity break after a day on Zoom calls. Depending on the time of year, there is plenty of hunting opportunities around. Even in the winter, Dunn County is a fun place to be. With winter recreational opportunities like snowmobiling, you can social distance and have the time of your life. If you like being outdoors, Dunn County makes it easy to have fun, social distance, get exercise and live life, even under certain restrictions. For those who have been stuck in the city with no access to parks or amenities (some east coast parks are still closed as of July), moving to Dunn County is an incredible opportunity to get back to life.

Where would you like to quarantine?

Unfortunately, it’s possible that something like COVID-19 could happen again. The question then becomes – where would you want to live during it? If the answer is in a community where people know and support each other, housing is affordable and you can easily get outdoors to enjoy recreational opportunities, then Dunn County should be on your short list. If you live in the Twin Cities and want to stay in the area, Dunn County offers an easy solution because it’s near everything you know, but far enough to offer a sense of freedom. We encourage you to learn more about our community and the benefits of living and working here.
