Every time we speak about workforce development, the question about seems to shift from what particular job title of category we are lacking in numbers to what skills, knowledge and interests do candidates for these vital careers need to possess before they can enter these fields.

In an economy that possesses a strong manufacturing and technology base, this skill set includes those in the disciplines of science, technology, engineering and mathematics — or STEM disciplines.

Just after the first of the year, the University of Wisconsin-Stout STEM College hosted the STEM Outreach Collaborative Planning Meeting with the purpose of forming a broad based group of educators, workforce development professionals, manufacturers, employers, government and economic development professionals interested in increasing the exposure of K-16 students to the STEM disciplines.
