On the last day of July, Main Street Menomonie became the 35th municipality to become an official Wisconsin Main Street community. Having this designation has been started a new chapter for a program that stretches over the course of 25 years.

The downtown commercial business districts of cities and villages are the traditional centers for business, commerce and government. They are also an indicator of the health of the community.

When the heart of a town is preserved and revitalized, one can wager that the rest of the community is healthy as well. The Wisconsin Main Street program is a division of the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, which speaks to the importance of revitalized and preserved downtowns to the overall economic health of Wisconsin.
